351 heads
hi, i am building a 347 stroker motor. my buddy wants to sell me dooe heads out off a 72 351 for 80 bucks. i was woundering if it is worth it to buy them cause i dont have the money for new ones. would i get better performance out of them than some aftermaket heads. also can you guys ballpark how much hp i would be around with 347, performer rpm air-gap, 750 cfm carb and and an agressive cam
thank you, mike

RE: 351 heads
if you have a 87 through 95 stock mustang heads just hang on to them for a little while and save your money for a good set of heads if you have a pre 87 motor or a non mutang motor go ahead and buy the 351 heads. but either way save up your money and get a good set of flowing heads for that thing.

RE: 351 heads
for $80 that is a good deal. but your gonna have to spend some money on port work, valve job and hardened valve seats.
those are not from a '72 if they are dooe's those are '69-'70 heads and basically are gt40 iron heads. i'm pretty sure the '72 heads sucked, only the '69-'70 but i could be wrong (i don't think i am though)
when it's all said and done, you'll have a nice set of heads, but will have spent about $600 total

RE: 351 heads
The '72 do really suck.......
I've sold 2 sets of C9's in the past 3-4 years and I get $100 a set for them.
They really don't make a bad head to use if you are 'bucks down'. Do a real careful bowl blending job along with matching the ports.
They seem to really like 1.94 valves too...........
I was using some like this on a 351 in a '67 'stang coupe, smallish hyd cam (comps), 10 compression, 4.10 gear and running 11.95 or so up here in the desert...........
