Default Not idle-ing

I have a 2002, and when I first start the car, it won't idle. once we get going, it's fine, just not at first. It's an automatic tranny, but to get her going, you have to drive it like a stick, letting of the brakes and pushing on the gas.... anything you can tell me???? I know nothing, and I've had about five different people give me about nine different stories. Thanks!

Idle Air Controller, AKA IAC.

For stuff concerning a 4.6 specifically, please look into the 4.6 forum.

On the 4.6 the IAC is pretty much guarentee'd to fail by 60k miles. Typical Ford.

Mine never failed on my '03 but that is the first place I would look too. I suppose people have been telling you that a faulty MAF could do that too (and it could) but the symptoms wouldn't likely go away when the car was warm.
