muffler question possible problem
hey i knotice that after i shut my car off in my drive way slight hill that behind the car was a puddle of what seemed to be water with carbon in it? I assume its from the pipe but is this bad that the water was black. The car is used only around town usually running for no longer than 10 minutes...... Is this ok or is there something thats producing to much carbon.
This kind of driving will age your car prematurely. It will cause sludge build up,fuel injector clogging, and carbon build up in the combustion chambers. It takes about an hour at operating temperature to boil the water and acids that cause sludge out of the oil.To see if sludge is forming, remove the oil fill cap and look inside the cap,if theres a milky looking slime inside it's sludge. The fuel injectors and intake valves will slowly over time, build up varnish and carbon deposits that will cause hard starts and idle problems when the engine is cold. The carbon in the combustion chambers and exhaust can cause pinging and false O2 sensor readings. My advice is to take the car out on the interstate and let it run for a couple of hours a month(at least) to burn off some of these deposits.Blasting up an on ramp is a good way to blow some of the goop out of the exhaust and the combustion chambers and a fun way to spend an afternoon.
