How do you know if you have a 28 or a 31 spline rear end?

 

31's are an upgrade...if you haven't done it....it's still stock.

 

31 spline axles were stock on Cobra's.GT's are 28 spline.

If i change my stock spline differential to 31 instead of 28 then i have to change out the axel and make it 31 spline also. Now do any modifications take place or do i just replace the differential with a 31 spline differential, add a ring and pinion, add the seals and bearings of the pinion, add the 31 spline axel and axle seals and bearings? Are the2 bearings and2 sealsof the 28 spline axel the same as 31 spline axel or are their special or different kinds?

Incorrect, Cobras didn't get 31 spline until 2001.


All you need for a 31 spline swap is the diff and axles, it's a good idea to replace the seals and bearings while you're taking everything out.
