Default Transmission Question

So I have an 1987 GT with a punched out 302 and a 3.73 gear in the rear with a stoutly set up limited slip. My concern is that my transmission is going to be the weak link. Here are my questions

Is a stock 87 5 speed a t-5?
Do they make hardened aftermarket guts for it?
What would be a good price for a used spare?

I am new to ford, as I have switched from toyota off road to auto crossing and would appreciate any information about my options.
thanks

yes its a t5
yes you can buy good guts to go in it.
or you can do like a tko500 for about $1500

now my opinion on the tranny. auto-x isn't nearly as hard on a tranny as drag racing. infact i don't know much that is as hard on a tranny as dragracing. your stocker with a good set of synchros and a good clutch my hold up just fine.

Thanks for the info

I am starting to get a chattering when I really put a torqe load on the drive train (3500-5500 rpm) My car isn't exactly a stocker which is why I feel I might need to get a spare. What kind of problems come up wiith the t-5, is it known for being a good transmission?

thanks
