E303 cam with stock heads?
I was supposed to go work on my 94 gt 5.0 today. my garadge has no power so i am putting it off for another week... I am upgrading basically every bolt on. but heads.. I would like to upgrade to a e303 cam but i was not shure if that would be ok consitering I am still running stock heads. If anyone could let me know I would greatly appreciate it..I have the front of the car apaet now and if i can i should just put the cam in now while its all out! thanks again guys!
Give us a list of the bolt-on's. From the info you have given, I would not put in the cam. I would upgrade the springs and use some 1.7 rockers. That will increase lift to 0.474 with the stock cam.
i have a bbk cold air intake, with k&n filter, granatelli mass air flow( with a cold air tune and tuned for the 30# injectors, edelbrock 70mm throttle body, edelbrock elbow, edelbrock performer 2 upper and lower intake. with a 1 inch spacer, edelbrock valve covers. ford racing underdrive pullys, eliminated all ac and smog pump stuff. mac headers, mac off road h pipe dynomax cat back, autolite racing spark plugs. msd 6al ignition box, msd pro distributor (8455) , msd wires. 190 lph holley fuel pump, holley adjustible fuel pressure regulator, 30# ford racing fuel injectors. i have all this stuff new in the boxes.. i have the radiator off and the whole front of the car is apart, i should do the cam while im at it right?
I think I didnt forget anything... thanks for your help guys!

Put some gear in it!! The Edelbrock performer 2 is allot of intake for stock heads, as are the 30lb inj. You have a great parts list, but with the intake, I would say a set of good heads will be needed to make use of the intake. Personally, I would save up and do heads and cam at the same time. This way you will have a complete combo to work together better. Just remember if you go ahead and put in the cam with the stock heads, REPLACE the valve springs. The stockers are weak and you will get valve float with more lift. I have been there....broken keeper retainers from the floating. Hope this helps you.
ow much will it cost me and how hard is it to install a good set of valve springs on my stock heads.. i really dont have the money for the heads I want right now. I would like to buy the cam, get it out of the way, and do the valve springs thanks alot for your help!
Crane cams has or aleast had a nice simple spring/retainer kit for late model heads. It has a single spring set up with different offset keepers to keep the installed height the same on the intake and exhaust valves. Back in the day it was about $95.00. I just looked in my Crane catalog, This should be the part number 44308-1. These springs should handle .530 lift. I WOULD check with Crane to verify all is still good and nothing has changed i.e spring pressure , installed height etc. It is not that hard to change the springs with the heads on the motor. You need a spring compressor, compression tester (fitting that screws into the spark plug hole and can put compressed air fitting on). Have the piston at TDC with atleast 125psi of air in the cylinder. Compress th old spring, remove and install the new ones. Sometimes the stock retainers and keepers stick together, a light tap with a hammer will loosen them to take apart.
i think im going to sell my stock rims and another set of rims to get some money to get the heads but if it dont work out the valve springs will hafto do.. thanks guys!
