hood material 2005 & hood pins
V8 2005 Mustang GT Premium 4.6L 3V 5 speed Automatic w/ OD
bt Ford racing hood pin set $37 Mustangs Unlimited. I looked at several different pin sets and the Ford Racing one is substantial
http://www.mustangunlimited.com/item...?T1=M16700A+01
the salesman mentioned the hood may not be metal but fiberglass or composite material. He suggested testing it with a magnet. I did and he may be right. the magnet snaps against the fender, roof, door with a forceful metalic clang; however, the hood only lightly attracts the magnet.
1.) What is it made of?
2.) what are the implications for drilling a hole in it? any suggestions.
Thanks.

RE: hood material 2005 & hood pins
Magnets don't stick to aluminum...
But, if they are strong enough... they WILL stick to the framing UNDER the aluminum hood, which happens to be steel!
The Factory hood is 401 Aluminum glued to a framwork of steel. (crappy glue job too if you look at it!)

Seriously? [sm=WTFsgign.gif]I hadn't looked that close to the hood structure.
Can we say dissimilar metal corrosion? I thought you could!
Just great.
