Default Gas

Just picked up my Black '06 GT vert on Tuesday. (Which is unbelievable!)

I've recently moved to Iowa where a lot of the gas at the stations is an Ethanol blend. I'm a little nervous about putting this in my car. Any suggestion? Anyone running it in their vehicle? My mechanic on my recently traded A6 2.8T said I could use it in that....but that's not my Mustang![&:] Any help or input will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.

Do NOT use Methanol blend
You CAN use Ethanol blend though. It is most likely a 10% ethanol blend as required in most metropolitan ares in the midwest. This will NOT harm your engine.

+1 to Scooter.

In the original post, you didn't indicate what percentage the blend is in your area. If you don't know, find out. (Don't they put this on the pump?) If it's higher than 10%, you have issues with the Ethanol eating through rubber, etc., but under that you should be fine.

Best,

The big no no is E85, that will kill our cars. I haven't seen it in my area but I believe the pump handle is yellow and there are warnings on the pump.

As previously mentioned 10% ethanol mix will not hurt our cars, that is what all the gas in my area is and I've had no problems.

Thanks for the input! I believe it's 10% Ethanol blend. Just traded an Audi A6 2.8T in for my stang, and that one only took premium gas so I really haven't paid attention except to notice that all the regular gas seems to be a blend.

Yes, I was going to say that the Audi probably required premium, 93 octane, as do most performance, small size engines. All the sporty foreign cars need premium, and with gas prices going back up over $3 soon, it makes a big difference being able to put in regular 87 octane!
Is that what ethanol is? Does it have different octane levels?
If there's no difference, what politician is responsible for so many of us having to use normal gas? If we can replace 10% of gasoline with corn fuel, wouldn't it lower our dependence on foriegn oil?
Or are things so screwed up that the ethanol is made from foreign corn??!!

Ethanol is made just south of me in Indiana from good ole US corn. I wish I could get E85? ethanol for my Explorer. It accepts it. From what I hear it's lots cheaper and mileage is just a little lower..

That was the reason that they made the Ethanol, so we could lower our dependency on foreign oil. Problem is that few cars can accept it (besides the newest models which so many people don't have and can't afford) and that few gas stations have it. I am here in SoCal, and I couldn't tell you where a station that sells this is anywhere. And it is cheaper since that market isn't held by a oil cartel.

I can, however, tell you where the nearest charging station is for all the Prius and Civic Hybrids we have out here. ha ha ha....although that info really does me no good.
