Scary thing is they could. I've heard there's a move in NJ for cops to have the ability to electronically kill your engine in a pursuit. Drive by wire makes this easy. Man, talk about Big Brother. I don't think it would be long before you could get simple instructions on the internet on how to build a engine kill device from Radio Shack components..just what car jackers need.
I also know a tuner who is working on a throttle cable setup to bypass this.

Thanks, rotorr22.
Normally, the police around here do not have to look at my car's computer readout.

hmmmmmmm. Maybe we could disable the police engines first. hehe

I have been there, done that with among others, a 500HP 911 and an E55. What produces a holy crap when you first experience it becomes the norm. Usually lasts longer than a week though. lol The big reason I now think that the "feel" of a car and the fun it produces is most important. The GT gives me that as much as any car I've owned. And it is fast and I don't known if there's a car out their so easy to mod.
WOW....I had the same problem today as I drove home.
I commute about 90 miles each day and as I was comming back home today, I said outloud to myself, "Whats wrong with this car". I thought back to when I bought the car and remembered it pulling better, Because a regular 3 series type mercedes was pulling on me. "WTF!!!!!", I thought.
I swear this is one of the most useful websites I have known.
I'm gonna try this reset technique tomorrow.
Hell......F that. Its 3:35 in the morning and I may go do it now. lol

New gt and 900 miles ,not even broken in yet and want more power. I know it is all in my head ,but I feel like my car is not as fast as it was a week ago. Anyone else dealing or dealt with this.

One of the things I brought it in for was a tick sound coming from under the hood every 20 seconds. Turns out it was the air conditioner, but they listed the diagnosis as "light engine work" on the worksheet, which I don't like the sound of. I didn't bring it in for any "engine work". If the AC makes a tick sound, they should have just known that. No "work" needed.

And while you make light of the CPU's capabilities, just remember that it is continuously recording data, like engine rpm's and speed, which can be downloaded for use by the police in the event of an accident, and by the dealership if you should need warranty coverage because your engine blows up.

If the latter, does anyone think a dealer might turn down the power to prevent having to honor an extended warranty, if you know what I mean?

I had the same problem, but unfortunately for me, I only noticed the power drop the first time I got it back from it's first time in the shop. Taking off from a start, it just did not seem to be as fast. And even though it was a GT stick, it had a throttle lag!! The lag went away after a week or so. I guess it adapted to my driving style. But I am very suspicious of what happened to it while in the shop. I had reset my MPG counter two days prior, and when it went in, it was at it's usual 16MPG for city driving. When I got it back it read 13MPG, and reached 14MPG only after a couple days. WTH did they do to it??

I have noticed this ticking sound as well, but with the heat on. It's actually kind of annoying, as you can really hear it with the windows down. I guess it's normal though; it sounds like a pulley clutch, so either the AC compressor is engaged even with heat on (I did not have the recirculate button on) as well as the AC, or some electric thermostat sounds a lot like a pulley clutch engaging [:'(]
