Long Tube Install. Big $$$$$

Long Tube Install. Big $$$$$
I just installed a C&L w/SCT2 brenspeed tune about 1 1/2 months ago, WOW what a difference. I was planning on buying the MAC 1 3/4" Ceramic Long-Tube headers from Brenspeed for $469.50. I have heard this was a difficult install so I contacted two garages/mechanics that are familiar with the 05-06 GT's. The first garage said 10 hrs. labor x $70.00 per hr.= $700.00. the other garage was 9 to 11 hrs. x $70.00 per hr. = $630-$770.= about $1,200 for headers and install. Do you guys think the long tubes are worth the $$$$? or could I get better upgrades for the same or less money? thanks.

I think you should find a better garage for the quote. Shouldn't be quoted over 4 hours MAX IMO.
EDIT - Tell them you only want to be quoted for the hours they are actually WORKING on your car, not for the hours it is sitting there.

CK is right on that. $700 is a little high. my dad gives a flat rate for jobs like that. sounds like these guys are trying to use chiltons time or something. it just can't be done that way with performance work. find a good shop that will give you a flat price without calculating labor cause i can assure you when you pick your car up from these other guys it won't be 10hrs. they will $tick it to you. i didn't think it was a hard job but it does take some extra time just to remove all the studs and get the h-pipe lined up. i did mine in my garage at home with hand tools in about 6-8 hours in no rush.

Took me, by myself, 12 hours to install LT's Xpipe, and cats, including lunch, supper, and 2 trips to the tool store, and dealing with an unrelated garage fire. It would have taken much less time had I been on a hoist or high jackstands, ramps make it pretty cramped under there when trying to installed LT's.
I wasn't in a hurry either.

I may call around to a couple of more places on Monday. If I can't get it done for about $300-400, I will do it myself. Is it necessary to add a aftermarket mid-pipe or can I cut the factory one? I live in Indiana so I don't have to get my car inspected. I don't want my car any louder, I just want HP and TQ. Thanks.
