The first number is the width of the widest part of the tire. Their is also a number for the treadpad. The fact is, the lower the aspect ratio moves the widest part of the tire out toward the treadpad putting more rubber on the road. Give me a shout if you have any questions.

What is the difference between these tires, what is wide and has tall sidewalls?
for some reason I just don't get the relations between the first and second numbers

The tire in the link is a very low profile. Mine are not that low. I have not had a chance to get a pic yet. As for how the sizing works, it is hard to explain easily, but this should help. Click Here
