I saw some hood pin look alikes that require no drilling and use 3M tape.
I was wondering if this was safe for the paint on the hood of my car or if I remove them at some point in time .. the paint will come off with em...

im thinking of the same mod. about the tape coming off all i can say is when i took off my factory spoiler to install the roush ford had some type of tape on the rear deck. i dont know if it was the 3m or some other brand. i was able to get it off just by rubbing it with my fingers. it would roll up into little *****. after it was all off the paint under where the tape was looked great.
