I was under the impression that the first oil change should happen a bit early....shortly after break-in. The day I took delivery of my car they scheduled me for an oil change appt. saying that i won't need to change it until 5k and that they are using semi-synthetic. Does this sound crazy? I've already crossed 4k on my car due to some long trips.

I changed mine at 1000. Probably not really nessary, but I know it can't hurt and I'm not sure how clean an engine is from the factory. 5000 for the first one does seem high. I usually hear 3000.

Todays engines can run longer between oil changes. That's why the owners manual suggests every 5k. It can't hurt to change it early but is not necessary.

I changed mine at 1000 also then every 3000.

I changed mine at 1500, went to mobile 1 and the mobile 1 filter. Now at 3000, will probably change at 5000, then stick to every 3000 miles. Some may say it is too frequent, but it's my mustang and I'll change the oil as frequentlyas I want !!!

No doubt you can't hurt anything changing too frequently. My question is how long to wait to change to full synthetic. I've heard immediately, 3,000 miles, 5,000 miles and 10,000 miles.
