These Mustangs handle great!

These Mustangs handle great!
Had my 1st real close call today. Was doing about 65 on a 2 lane on ramp. I was in the left lane and there was a car a little further ahead of me in the right lane. The car started braking and slowing down but no blinker so I figured he was just slowing down or was maybe going to pull off to the right but after slowing way down, he suddenly cut in front of me. I slammed on my brakes and was going to move to the right lane but then the car started going back to the right lane as if he 'suddenly' realized I was there. So we were both swerving back and forth trying to avoid eachother. I really thought I was going to lose control of the car at this point but it stayed firm. I don't even think the anti-lock brakes kicked in. I was too pissed at the time to realize it but I really am amazed at how well the car handled. I've always just thought of them as fast cars but never thought about their handling in times like that.
As for the driver (who wound up stopped on the left hand shoulder of the left lane), I layed on my horn, flashed him the finger and yelled a couple obscentities as I passed by. How many accidents does it take for people to realize you can always turn around and get back on the highway. I don't live in a big city or anything. Just last week, someone in our area got stuck under a truck trying to cut across 3 lanes to make an exit.

Thankfully, that has never happened in my new 'Stang, but I could relate several experiences I have had that are very similiar (Being run off the road, getting cut off, etc.) in my old car. It's nice to know even as fast as our cars are, they still handle well when it counts. I know people will say how bad the Mustang's handling is compared to other cars, and they are right, but if can handle when it counts, like in Marguerite66's case, that is all that matters.

It was more the driver than the car...but the car made you look cool doing it
What exactly are people saying when they say the Mustang doesn't handle well. Are you talking about the solid rear axle? They seem to handle well enough for me but not as well as some touring sedans.

I had no confidence in the car with the stock suspension. I felt like any turning while braking would lead to a fishtail easily 'cos the weight transfer is massive. But I'm coming from driving a 2300lb car with road race coilovers so, naturally they don't compare very well. I would have felt more comfortable in a Fuzion, 'cos it would at least have gobs of understeer built in. Now that springs and dampers are loaded in the Mustang, it feels a lot better and I have much more confidence in the car when maneuvering. You couldn't pay me to use the stock suspension again.

+1 on going back to stock suspension.
I was actually impressed at first when I ran at the track stock...once I upgraded the tires I actually got some decent straight line breaking and was able to carry a good amount of power out of turns.
Now having said that, I am back with the grasshopper...I can't even imagine going back to stock on the track, with the upgrades I have done the car handles like a complete beast .
