Automatic or Stick Shift?
The fact of the matter is that I don't even know how to drive stick, not that it would be difficult to learn. Also I am getting a great deal on the car at 24000 when it's a gt, with premium package and interior upgrade, and an upgraded intake and exhaust system, and only 14000 miles. I am not THAT set on manual, I just think it would be more fun.
That's another thing to consider. I didn't know how to drive stick 4 weeks ago. Right now I can't believe I ever drove an auto car and I'll definitely try to stay away from them from now on.
Just wanted to throw this out there, I payed $25100 for my 06 GT with interior upgrade package, ugrade 18" wheels, front airbags, side airbags, wheel locks, and the active theft systme, the car has 46 miles.
Tungsten Grey with 5 spd.

hmm, have you checked blue book on that? i haven't checked so i don't know but i'm not sure that deal sounds like it's the super deal you're thinking. i got my '06 gt premium auto IUP brand new for 26.5k so a '05 version with 14k miles on it for only 2500 bucks less doesn't sound compelling imo. i wouldn't be too worried about mods since it's more fun to do them yourself (again just my opinion). anyway i'm just saying if you aren't sure it's the car you want then i don't think the deal you've got is that good that you can't pass it up.

I have a question and maybe this is due to my lack of stickshift expertise but I've been driving a manual for 5 years and I notice my intial acceleration is far behind that of an automatic because of the coordination required between the clutch and gas upon takeoff in first gear. What happens when I drive is I'm stopped, shifted in first, light turns green, I release the clutch while pressing hte gas and you have the engine rev up a little until the clutch hits the gear and then you're in first and that's when I floor it. But automatics don't have that problem, they're already in drive and they can just punch the gas from the get go. So automatics are kicking my *** because of that. Any pointers?

I haven't taken posssion of my 06 yet, so this will becoming from my foxbody experience.
You have to find the sweet spot....there is a spot where you can just dump the clutch and give it gas at the same time and bingo...your gone.
When I get into higher hrspwr applications I feather a little bit to get traction....I give it a little rev and have the clutch partly out right at the spot where it will engage while giving it gas. Basically I catch in while the rpm's are coming down from the rev
Keep trying, go somewhere safe like behind a warehouse or something and just practice....plus and adjustable clutch makes things a lot easier...you can set the clutch where you like it....usually from the factory the clutch has to come out quite a ways to engages...I set it so it engage right off the floor.

There is not one way that is right, b/c this is relative to hrspwr and application.

Wanna win in the 1/4? go for an auto if you r willing to mod your car, if manuals really are better than autos.. then why most 5.0 Mustangs drag racers have a 3 speed C4 auto?
Drag=Auto
street=manual
it's that simple..
