Mine was built in Feb of 05, I have had no problems with the shaker 500 system. As Bob D. said, when I listen to music in my car, I listen to it for a long time...otherwise, I just listen to the exhaust rumble.

Lasted one week with the "skipper 500". It skipped on all disks. The funny thing is that I live .8 miles down a gravel road. It rarely skipped while driving over the gravel, but skipped on the highway. It didn't seem to matter whether it was a burned disk or original. Some burned disks wouldn't play at all. I called b.s. and had it taken out after 1 week. I'm really really happy with the aftermarket setup. Went with a single DIN which gave me a storage compartment under the deck. I also have Sirius with the aftermarket so not having the 6 disk play isn't key to me. I know that whatever I slam into the Kwood is going to work and not skip.

Mine was built in 10/2005, Shaker 1000. It's never skipped. The only issue that I've ever had is pretty easy to avoid. If I write an MP3 CD, burn it, and later try to add a few songs, it will play for a little while, then say "Bad Disk" and eject the CD.
I've learned to burn a CD once and only once. If I need to make adjustments, then I need to burn a new CD. Simple.
I'm actually very happy with the Shaker 1000. It sounds great. No complaints whatsoever.
I'm so happy with it that at first I was surprised to read complaints about the Shaker system on the board.

What kind of CDs do you use to when you burn? I had the same problem, then I bought a different brand of CD which claimed to be better and I have never had the problem since. So you might want to try that too. Just a suggestion.
