2006 ECM vs 2005 ECM
Can anyone confirm/dispel that the 2006GT ECM is ‘smarter’ than the 2005GT ECM? I’ve seen some threads stating that starting in 2006, that technology now exists which can tell if you have EVER reflashed your ECM, even if you put the stock factory tune back on. Some posts suggest that Dealers can now tell if the ECM has the original factory flash.. even if you download the original tune stored on your tuner and reflash the ECM just before taking it in for warranty service. Something to do with “# of flashes”. For example, even though you reflash the original factory tune, it will show up on the ECM as “#5” flash instead of “#1” (out of the factory)… and dealer knows what’s up.. any Ford techs out there that can confirm/deny?
This would be really nice to know now that I've just screwed myself if this is the case. I just finally jumped on board the tune people and had heard all along that all you have to do is reflash back to stock and they'll never know. Help????
Good topic! My Uncle works for Dodge and the new dodge and chrysler will leave a code that tells the tech the car has been modified, I won't touch my stang until I can confirm or not.
OK.. calling all Techs... can anyone help us out with this one? Does the 2006 ECM log # of flashes... even though you "reflash" your stock tune, is it's profile somehow now different so Dealers know ECM has been flashed/re-flashed?
all they can tell on the 06's is the date/time of the last flash. so if you flash your computer, flash it back to stock, then take it in, they'll be like "wtf happened? why is the date so new?" and all you have to say is you had service re-flash it as a precaution or you had a dead battery. that's it.
end of story.
i'm still not gonna flash mine though because even if your battery legitimately dies i have heard stories of them denying service because they suspected a flash due to the very recent last flash time. they can't legally do this, but then again there are a lot of things they do that aren't legal or ethical.

How would the ECM know the "date" of the flash? Your tuner would have to transfer a 'date' when reflashing (and I don't think they do). The vehicle doesn't know what the date is?
