Default automatic question

Ive heard from a few people say that its ok to for example: Your coming at a stop light and your in D, and to slow down you can slowy shift 3-2-1 to a complete stop. Then when the light turns green you can shift up to D, 1-2-3 D? Any of these steps ok for the engine? Or shouldI just stick to D only?

Thankyou[sm=smiley20.gif][sm=smiley20.gif][sm=smiley20.gif]

Sometimes I do that, because it makes my Borlas sound awesome! I would think as long as your not over revving it that it should be fine.

I do that once in a while, although I'd rather the wear and tear be on my brakes than my trans. I generally use it the other way, to force my auto to stay at 1, 2, 3, or 4/5 (with the O/D off option) to rev out.

I am no expert, but me and my co-workers do it all the time in our work truck, and over the past year the tranny has started to slip. Like I said," I am no expert", but it can't be good for the tranny. We never had it at WOT when we would shift it, just coming to stops and from starts, or if we where pulling heavy loads.

I've only done it going 40 mph or less. NEVER right to first. I work my way down until about 15 mph then go into first. I'm really easy on it. I only do it once in a while also. I never put to much of a load on it while slowing down.

Not a fan of using the engine w/auto tranny to stop the car. Like someone said, I rather replace the pads than the trans. Butit can be done.

I play with the overdrive button every now and then. Other than that, I leave the gearshift alone.
