You could also be hearing the notorious "front end thunk".
There's an 88 page thread and growing. Good news though.
There is a fix. You need a pair of 8R3Z-18181-B upper mounts.

I have done some research on it and I have read both sides, some say the upper mount replacements work, some say they haven't cured squat.....sure hope someone who has done the upper mount replacement and can verify a 100% cure will chime in on this, as I'd like to cure my horse as well.

Check underneath the car and see if there are any illegal imagrants clinging to the bottom of the car for a free ride. We have found them to make these noises as you have discribed.
