Default Ganatelli Air Filter Cleaning

I have the Granatelli CAI and have been very happy with it and the easy bolt on power. The filter is starting to get dirty. Does any one know how to care for such a filter? How do you clean it? Does this one need to be oiled? What type of cleaning products? Like most of these aftermarket parts, seem to work well, but no documentation on the upkeep of the filter.

Has anyone had to clean their CAI filter element - any brand? Any tips?

I've always found it easiest to buy a new one every 30k-40k miles.
Not that expensive, and eliminates the possibility of over oiling, as well as the wait time for the washed filter to dry before reoiling.
Some people buy an extra so that they can install it while the first one dries.
To each his own.

I'm checking with my Amsoil Rep right now about a replacement for mine. Living in NC now. Ran around looking for a high pressure hose to blow it out. Not to be found, that time anyway. I came home and put my electric leaf blower to work from the inside out as well as I could. I then used my vacuum cleaner to vacuum the outer sides.

Probably not the greatest, that's why I'm talking with my Amsoil Rep. He has pics and such, need to give him a couple of measurements including the outer diameter of the intake unit and the inner diameter of the current filter.

Per Granatelli's instructions you can use the K&N filter cleaning kit on the filter and it will restore it to almost new condition. Thanks, Jared

Sort of pointless to buy an oiler filter just to toss it every time. Just find a paper element that fits it and costs 1/3 of the oil type. I have two; One that's installed and one that's ready-to-go like in your second description.

The oiled filters trap more junk, no?
Maybe I'm mistaken.

But replacing every 40k is not only painless, it's abouta penny every 10 miles.

I'll pay that.

Algregory,

Let me know what you find from Amsoil. I have the cash to burn vs the time to mess with it and will probably just buy a new one.
