Default Whipple charger is popping and farting. Help?

A month ago I installed the 3.125 pulley for 12lbs of boost. It was 90+ outside the day I added the pulley. I was getting some pings with my Sharky 91 octane tune I was running with my 10lbs boost pulley. At 10lbs only got a ping once on a 110 degree day.

I decided to run some Torco to get octane up to the 95-96 level so I can boost 12lbs with no worries. I t has never pinged with the Torco and 12lbs. I was only eyeballing the mixture of Torco each time I filled up. I always made sure to add more rather then less to ensure I never pinged. After 4-5 tank fulls mixed with Torco, I noticed that the car would pop and fart and loose power when I was going up a step long grade. Once I flattened out it went away. Car made great power before and after. I called Whipple and they think it is fouled plugs. But they said Torco is good stuff and should not foul plugs. (Maybe I over mixed it and the mix was to strong?) Car now pops on top of 3rd and 4th but not in 1st and 2nd?? Even on the flats.

I have changed back to the 10lbs and have fill tank up with new fuel and no more Torco. I still pops but seems to be getting better.

Why is it worse when I am going up a hill or after a hard banked freeway on ramp? Do you guys think I have fouled plugs? Should I change them? Could it be my COP's? I want to get the Granatelli COP's ASAP anyway. What spark plugs do the 12lbs boost guys run? Ford Racing, Brisk, Nipon???

By the way at 12lbs and 95 octane on this car! Wow! I was at 475rwhp on the 10 lbs. I think I am at 500+rwhp now. My last car was a 2007 Z06 with 485rwhp. This car is very very close to the same speed in a stright line as the Z06. That is the only comparision with the 2 cars. Striaght line!

Yep, octane booster probably messed up your plugs. That stuff'll do all manner of horrible things to your engine. You might want to revisit your tune for the hotter summer days if you're having a problem with pinging, especially at the power levels you're rolling at.

I had the same problem. I only could get 91 so I had a bottle of octane boost and shure enough it fouled the plugs. I put a new set of ht0 in and it went away. I would look at your tune for the 12lbs. Do you have a different tune for it? I talked to my tuner and he said he wouldnt use the same tune for any other psi than what it was designed for. Are you running stock internals?

All stock internals. I have a Justin Starky 91 tune and a 93 tune that was for the 10lb pulley. I called Whipple and they said the tune should be fine for 2lbs differents. They went on sto say that the can tune they flash on the ECU works for 8-12lb pulleys with no changes needed. I think I am going to send my ecu to Whipple and get there tune on the car???

I wouldn't switch to the whipple tune if its the same tune that frpp uses which i believe it is. It feels lazy compared to Justin's tune. It may be a very safe and conservative tune, but if you enjoy the power you have now I wouldn't do the switch. When you get a new set of HT0's you'll need to gap them unless the person you purchase them from says they are pregapped. BTW since whipple didn't write your current tune you shouldn't go by what they say instead you should ask Justin if his tune will support the 3.125 pulley.

Whipples tune is conservative or rich in other words, that's why it can run at 12psi or 10psi, because even with 2 more lbs of boost it will have a safe AFR. Whipple is assuming you are using their tune and the stock rev limiter is set. I wouldn't run the whipple tune and exceed the 6250rpm rev limiter. Whipples tune is also designed for the IAT sensor in the stock location, which you don't have anymore.

Whipple told me the same thing and i've used both the 8 and 10psi pulleys without so much as a hiccup, but i'd be very leery of using the 12lb pulley. I know I saw a dyno run somewhere of a guy using the whipple tune and 12psi, it ran lean up top.

I would be happy with 475rwhp or go back to the lighter vette.
