When the time comes, I'll be going w/LT's........they're only around $200 more than shorties.

KOOKS or American Racing or MAC long tubes way to go.
Shorties are a waste of money.

how can you say that shorties are a waste of money when the dyno plot from that link shows shorties gaining more power than the long tubes. get off the band wagon and stop telling everyone that long tubes are better when you have no proof.

Do it the right way, dont skimp on parts because A is cheaper then B. People that get into this habbit are doing things twice and end up paying more in the long run. get LT's.

Why are long tubes "right"? You shouldn't mislead people just because you know a friend of a friend. Its easy to get on the internet and just tell people stuff that you have heard and you probably believe it. However, if you can provide no proof why long tubes are better than shorties, you shouldn't post. Whenever you do long tubes, the midpipe gets changed and most likely its a catless set up. To compare directly to short tubes, you should compare to someone who dynos their car with stock exhaust and then with shorties and off-road x or h pipe installed.

I can tell you from "actual" experience that long tubes really won't make higher "peak" numbers than shorties (of course there are exceptions) on a basic bolt on car, but they tend to make slightly better numbers under the curve.

Now if you take a highly modified car then there really is no comparison... the long tubes will be much better.

I'll give you a perfect example: I recently had long tubes with a catted shorty h pipe installed and retuned. My previous setup was a mrt catted h pipe. So basically the only thing that changed (power wise) was the headers.

Here's what i gained (mods are in sig) n/a i gained 6rwhp/6rwtq, and with nitrous 20rwhp/56rwtq.

I've seen many other cars on the dyno with similar situations.

Don't necessarily beleive what you read! Go out in the real world and witness "actual" results.

i have shortys on my car, and with full bolt ons, anderson n32 cams, 24lbs injectors and 90mm maf i only put down 280 on the dyno... AFTER the tune. the guy that tuned it said if i had longtubes i would have gained another 20-30hp with my setup. i was hoping for atleast 300 to the wheel, and would have easily achieved that with longtubes. i just wasted 300 on shortys when i could have spent that 300 on longtubes and shorty o/rxpipe. dont waste your money on shortys and i can vouch for all the "shortys suck at top end" cuz my car still doesnt pull much harder at high rpms.

For the new edge cars shorties give minimal gain, not even worth putting on unless you got em for free and didn't have to pay for labour

i agree completely, i wish i wouldnt have wasted 300 on shorty headers, they have been on for 2 weeks and already have an exhaust leak anyway! after looking into the design of shorty headers, like the bbk and jba ones i have concluded that i am retarded for wasting my money on them. no matter what anyone else says, if you read up on the difference between shorty headers and longtubes youll see longtubes are the way to go. maybe even bassani midlengths cuz i have driven a car that has them and i love the way it pulls and they sound amazing! idk if they sell them for 05-09 gts though. they were on a 02 that i drove.
