Default CAI Air Filter with holes

This maybe a stupid observation, but filters for JLT, FRPP and some more CAIs have a hole on top of them, isn't the whole point of an air filter to prevent dust and crap from going in and not to have a big hole at the end of the filter?? the C&L filter is covered up with plastic at the top.
Wouldn't this make sense?!?!

It isn't an open hole. There is filter inside that hole just like on the outside of the filter. It increases the filter's surface area without increasing the size of the actual filter which can increase airflow.

Yeah the hole tapers in on a cone shape till it meets about 4-5 inches inside the cone. The entire surface is either filtered or plastic, so you won't get dirt in your engine.

There's an invisible force field in the top of them. That's why they're so damned expensive...
