Default Gas Question

just to make sure...the mustang gt runs on regular gas until you get a tune, and then it needs premium right?

No not necessarily, I got custom tunes from Brenspeed, and they made one for 87 Octane regular gas and its a pretty nice tune, Im running Brenspeeds 93 Ocatne tune but will probably switch back to 87 with Gas going up!

Stock requires 87 but will run on higher octane with no additional performance gains. A custom tune is designed for a particular octane. You typically get whatever 3 octanes you request with your tuner. Even the custom 87 octane tune kicks azz over the stock 87 tune.

I always use premium regardless. typically with the highest octane you'll get a little more mileage over the cheap gas. once you factor in the mileage difference the pump price difference isn't as big. plus if you ever take apart a car that only ran 87 vs one that only ever saw 93 the 93 one will be a lot cleaner inside. the peace of mind is worth the little extra money to me.

Word is that chronically running a higher octane than what you're tuned for can cause some issues. That was scuttlebutt on the forum and I'd consider that worth researching.

hummm, not sure how that's possible. the reverse, too low of octane for your tune, would definitely be a problem.
