When my gas light comes on. it takes 13.8-14 gallons to refill. I've driven 20 miles into the reserve and still had gas when I went to fill it up. It took 14 something to top it off. I've been told, but not verified that the Factory says you have 20 miles left when the light comes on. My experience suggests this is true. I don't have a trip computer, but I think the tank does have the advertised 16 gallons, not that you'd want to run it all out...

With the discussion above, I will start filling up sooner.

Thanks to the assembled wisdom!

Light comes on with "50 miles to empty". My Explorer is the same way.

I have taken my 2013 a few miles past zero and only put 15 gallons in. I noticed that the computer in my stang is a little conservative on it calculations and shows slightly less fuel efficiency than the actual calculation. Usually an 10th of a MPG difference. How many gallons need to be in the tank to keep the fuel pump from overheating or being otherwise damaged as described in previous posts on this topic?

The last three times I've driven from SE Massachusetts to the Philly area I've ended up at about 27 MTE. Typically it takes 14 gallons, give or take a couple tenths to fill it from there. I'm a bit less concerned about this in the winter than I am during the heat of summer.

I ran mine out of gas last night sitting in the gas station parking lot talking to friends for 30 minutes while letting the car idle. I got caught out on a stretch of interstate and ended up running it about 20 miles past the 0 miles remaining mark. Funny thing it took 16.005 gallons to fill it up. It fired back up with no worries and i will not do that again!

Everytime I go to the track I pump the fuel out of the tank using the fuel pumps and a fuel rail adapter so I can put in pure race fuel. Sometime's at idle their will die due to lack of fuel or pressure. A lot of us who run pure race fuel will do this.

My gt500 pumps sound like rock polishers, before I start it, if it gets below a 1/4 tank, that's my reminder to get gas. Above that they make a nice squeak sound when they finish running after key on.
