I used to use pure one oil filters, but there has been a lot of talk about them reducing flow. It's not physically larger, so if it allows less dirt to pass, then it must allow less oil to pass as well.
Kinda like the old debate on K&N air filters allowing more air and dirt to pass.

At the parts house I managed, we used to have a opened oil filter display of all the brands we carried. Fram constantly had the crappiest looking filters inside. The Allied-Signal Rep (Bendix, Autolite and Fram then) would want us to put it away and not show the public his product (Fram). He didn't care about the air and fuel filters or PCV valves we displayed. He hated our oil filter board though. It made his brand look really poor to the public.
Allied Signal has since sold off their brands. Bendix & Autolite are now Honeywell. Fram is owned by an New Zealand leverage buy out company (Rank Group). Who knows what's going to happen with an ownership like that? Probably just going to sell them off like most things these LBO's get their hands on.

I use the motorcraft unit as well..I put FRAM on my car once because the parts store ran out of the motorcraft filters and my car actually did not explode and seemed just fine for the duration of that oil change interval.

First off, do not buy Fram.
Second, do not go to AUTOZONER and believe
that the $5 an hour guy who cant get a job
anywhere else knows anything about vehicles
except what his 'screen' tells him/her.

The OE Motorcraft filter, FL820S, rated pretty high so I'll use it when I intend to go no longer than 6k-7k miles on either of the Stangs. For those 10k-12k mile oil changes it's the Amsoil filter on the Stang and the M1 filter on the SUV.
When I took a class in oil sampling and analysis for work (damn, was that 17 years ago?), one of the instructors referred to Fram oil filters as "a rag in a can".
