Question 2013 GT /w Bama Tune + Pirellis

Questions for those who run Bama Tune & Pirelli's at the track..

Which tune do you guys use when your at the track? What RPM are you launching at?

All but 1 of my runs have been using 93 race tune and I can't seem to crack a better time on the 60' than a 2.104

Track I race at is Castrol Raceway in Nisku, Alberta that sits at 2210ft above sea level and on your typical day DA Correction sits it anywhere between 3000-3400ft
(I have the barton 2 post shifter but seem to still get locked outta 3rd once and a while so thinking I gotta switch Clutch lines and possibly go to MGW shifter)

Friday at the track got a few runs in..

93 Race tune was used for all my runs except one but my times vary from 12.733 & 13.2 and 60' between 2.104 & 2.372

93 Performance tune was my only run without using Race tune and I missed 3rd got pissed off and unfocused and missed 4th as well but still ran a 13.4 and yet again could only pull off a 2.184 60'

Is the performance tune better off with the stock pirelli's and stay off the race tune till I get set of DR?

Two things are evident. Your best time is excellent considering the DA. And the variation between your best and worst et's indicates you need more seat time to optimize your launches(rpm, slipping the clutch, tire pressure) with the OEM Pirellis. Trying to get consistently good launches with almost 400 lb-ft of torque and those tires is going to take a lot of practice. Keep at it, and good luck!

Yea, Friday was my 3rd day ever being on the track ever in any vehicle so definitely require more seat time but did notice I am very inconsistent but knew it was lack of experience only thing I am consistent at is my 60' are always between 2.1-2.3 lol

What kinda tire pressures should I run the OEM Pirelli's at, I have just been running them at 32psi? figured I would learn the vehicle as I have it now before I started tinkering with tire pressures. I've been launching between 2500-3000 is that about where I should be launching?

Your max 60' time variation is 2.7 sec. That means your max e.t variation should be approx. twice that or 5.4 sec., assuming all else remains the same(shifting rpms, tire spin during shifts, wheel hop, etc.). And it's very close to it => 13.2 vs. 12.7. So getting consistent 60' times is probably the key to your running consistent et's.

You'll have to experiment with tires pressures(suggest 20-26 psi) and launch rpm's/clutch slipping depending on the DA and track condition.

You are off a decimal point

should be .27 and .54 sec not 2.7 and 5.4 second lol

I have the same issue as OP but i havent tried at a track, on the street ive never got below 2.1 60 foot according to my phone. What were the automatic guys running on the track? Maybe auto just makes the 60 foot so much easier.

OP are you bogging or spinning? Try raising launch rpm a bit and slip the clutch a bit longer.

I seem to either bog down or spin massively, its hard to get it right without slicks or DR's that are hot

Thanks for the correction. Those doggone decimal points also have a nasty tendency of moving to the left concerning my investments.

1. from the guys I have talked to at the track with auto's and looking at their slips they are all in the high 1.9 to low 2.0 60' times

2. I haven't bogged yet and get very little spin but I do notice I get a fair amount of wheel hop.

3. Little bit of tid bit information I did test Track Apps vs Track Slips and it was actually pretty accurate the most it was off was 0.267s Timeslip 12.733 and Track Apps said 13.0s

I did swap out to the 93 performance tune and still have it on and have done a fair amount of back highway runs and have noticed a whole different ball game.

93 race tune /w track apps I would consistently pull 13.1 - 13.3 (clean shifts) and just couldn't seem to pull anything better (other then my 13.0 at the track) and I have done probably in the amount of 2-3 dozen runs with this tune.

93 perf tune /w track apps in the last 2-3 days I have probably run about 8-10 runs thus far and I am now consistently pulling 12.9 - 13.1 (when I don't miss a shift lol)

Think I have come to the conclusion that the 93 Race Tune is a bit much for the Pirelli's and that I benefit more from the Performance Tune rather than that Race Tune. Well with my driver mod skill anyways lmao
I am sure someone very experienced in drag racing could easily pull great numbers with stock pirelli's but I am far from experienced in the drag world.

do you warm up the tires with a burnout or no? If not, maybe try it a few times with a nice like 4-5 second 1st to 2nd gear burnout

then bump up your launch RPMS to like 3750 and slip the clutch a bit longer so you dont bog

and report back

If you break 2.0 that would be good

I just do a rolling burnout to clean off the tires... for me my better launches come when i go through the water box instead of around it... but my clutch skills may be lacking from experience if I launch between about 2500-3000 I get decent launches but from 3100-3500 I spin like a civ lol

I put a Yukon Posi in and I noticed launches are straight without any hint of sideways motion by the rear. With LCB's and Swarr-bar on stock P-Zero's they hooked pretty good.
But fatter tires will be on next year.

Don't get T2's for the Drag Strip. They're for the Track. Guy had a Boss at the strip and said he already had to replace one T2 ($900) + install$, and it might break again. I researched on-line and found most opinions were Yukon was a good drag diff.

I speed shift like I drive my Semi, hold the throttle down and just slightly modulate it back as needed while quickly clutching only what you need while keeping the rpm's up. I'm not use to my new 6 speed so I went from 15's to 14's then finished in the 13's and I know I can do better. Later
