Should I run to it, or run away from it?

Post Should I run to it, or run away from it?

There is a dealer near me that has a NEW Mustang GT, with almost every option I want. The only option it lacks is the Electronics Package (navigation).

Also, it's not in a color I particularly like (Ingot Silver). It's not that I hate silver, but i prefer the Sterling Gray.

Anyway, the GOOD news is that it is priced at almost $15k below sticker! I have a Ford coupon for $750 off, which brings the discount to over $15k below sticker price.

The not-so-good news: it's a leftover 2012 model.

So, buy it or avoid it?

Doesn't sound like a prudent decision financially; even if the car's not exactly what you want, it's still 2 years old and has lost way more than 15K in value by now. Back to the original delimma; since you are shopping for new, why not either get EXACTLY what you want, either in the money, or in your perfect choice of car? Luck.

Lets see, production of S-197's is done as the S-550's will be introduced in 5 days so finding "exactly" what you want may be impossible. Can you live with lack of Nav and color? $15k off sticker is great deal, as for residual value have you seen how clunky Fox bodies are holding up $$$. I wouldn't worry.

For nav, Raxiom makes a replica of the 2012+ navs

With the '15s hitting the showroom floors in about 5 months, that "new" '12 is almost 3 years old. I certainly would expect a deep discount.

Considering you could get a '14 GT base for under $30k (yeah, nobody in their right mind pays sticker or anything close), I'm wondering what the price for that '12 is.

Dealer near me wants $29,988 for a new 2012 Mustang with an MSRP of $36,815. If they took $15,000 off it I would buy it.

Back in 2010 I got $9,600 off MSRP on my 2010 Mustang so $15,000 off seems right.
