Appearance Rant
Seriously... people...
You don't see anything odd about making an American Muscle car into a rice vehicle? Aren't they two totally different cars? Big engines vs. small, high-rev, whiny 4 bangers? Two totally different classes of automobile deserve two different classes of respect.
Why buy the Muscle car to make it look like a ricer? Counter-intuitive.
Funny thing... MANY people consider the MOPAR guys major gearheads and muscle car fanatics... that's hard to disprove... they keep MOST of their cars visually stock, and the thought of 'ricing' a Charger SRT8 or whatever other Mopar is punishable by death to those guys. Yet, so many Mustang owners cheapen their cars. Its sick.

sally, i have to say, i totally agree with you. to hell with putting non functional hood scoops, huge spoilers, and stupid decals on OUR cars. we are just SO together on that one. but know what? thats our opinion. if someone else wants to do those mods to their car, last time i checke we still live in America and they are totally free to do that if they want. im not gonna say i like it because i really dont, but its their car. end result is their car looks totally riced out and STUPID to guys like you and me who know what a mustang should look like, but thats their choice. i guess im kinda agreeing with allfyre. but dude, seriously, PLEASE DONT DO THAT LEOPARD SEAT COVER THING DUDE. LMAO. jk, do what you want man, its your car.
i'll join the rantfest! i agree with you that it's a crime to punish your mustang for your own bad taste! see my list of mods you will know what i'm after, what the mustang was built for. speed. that hood on my car is functional and is the only body work that will be done other than removing that cheap *** taurus spoiler ford threw on. i have to say this though, as the former manager of my dad's speed shop i would try to talk someone out of buying a triple element gold plated plastic wing but if he really wanted it i'd gladly sell it to him. you won't see that kind of sh*t on my car nor will you see a wheel bigger than the factory 17 or 18". i'm not building a "donk" i'm building a fast mustang that will embarass some vettes.
to each his own but let's stay tasteful with the mustangs you can cheese out your ricer if you have one.

Ok, I will answer the rant with the rant to end all rants.

I hear what you're saying but people have different tastes, as well as different reasons for wanting to buy the car in the first place. The people that make these kind of mods don't care so much about the car's "heritage." To tell the truth, I don't really care about it that much. I do, a little, I think it's great that the car has history and I love the retro look; but I bought it because, well, because it gave me a boner plain and simple.
I don't want to start a fight and I'm not ripping into you here but I want to address a few specific things:
1. You don't like "ricers"
Ok. I get that. And I totally hear where you're coming from, but let's keep something in mind when it comes to these "ricers." For the last 20 years, while the Mustang has largely sucked *** (along with most other American cars.) Custom cars and much of the auto-performance culture has been kept alive by the "ricers." I'll give them a new name, because I get the feeling that when you say "ricers" you mean something derogatory. Japanese import performance enthusiasts. We'll call them Jipes.
So, you see, these Jipes kept the auto-culture alive for the last twenty years, and nobody can deny that in that time people have done some impressive PERFORMACE modifications to their imports. This was done here in America, by Americans, to Japanese cars. So if you ask me, they can hang out in the muscle car club, which I always thought was mostly about getting more out of what you've got anyway. I'm not much of a gearhead, but I have a friend with an Integra, he spent about 15 grand total on and it makes something ungodly like 700HP, I don't know what the hell he did to it, but I know that it will blow away my Mustang, you're Mustang and even God's Mustang (and I don't think his is naturally aspirated). It looks like a red fighter-jet and he drives that f***er to work BTW.
2. Heritage
So, the car has some history. Most of it is pretty boring (like, the 80's and 90's). You mention the "American muscle car," what does that mean? Anything with 8 cylinders? C'mon man, this is the 21st century. This is a modern car. It has a computerized brain, you can even program it. It got all this newfangled stuff in it that they call "al-um-in-um". Is it old school? Yes. Is that awesome? F*** yes it is. But what really makes this car good is that it is, in fact, a modern sophisticated machine with a little old-school muscle.
3. My warm, fuzzy "let's all get along-type" attitude
You called me warm and fuzzy, and you insinuated that I had a less-than well thought opinion. I’m giving you all the thoughts behind that opinion here, so that you have a better understanding. I am not a warm fuzzy "let's all get along" type of guy. Most of my stuff is black, I am well trained in the deadly arts, I have been described as "abrasive", my mp3 collection was described by co-workers as "mostly painful to listen to" (I don't think any of them got through the whole collection though), I keep firearms in the house (100% legally). My Mustang's name is "Fluffy." You see, I like contradictions and contrast, so on some level I can almost appreciate the idea of a nicely Jiped-out Mustang.
More so, I have a strong belief in indivuality and personal freedom (as in: "this here jacket represents a symbol of my individuality, and my belief in personal freedom") and I don't really care about what they do or don't do with their own cars. I certainly don't think that putting an oversized racing spoiler on a mustang is the same as beheading someone over religious differences or cursing at babies. Do I think a beehive muffler sounds good on a Civic? No. But I have no objection on moral grounds.
4. The general public
You brought up the idea that it's wrong to Jipe-out a mustang because, I guess, most mustang enthusiasts wouldn't. At the same time you alluded to the idea that yourself, along with the "general public" get to decide what's acceptable for people to do to their own cars, and in the privacy of their homes, and in their bedrooms, and in what they are allowed to watch, read, say, think and feel. Well, I have a message for the "general public" and I was hoping that you, as their official spokesperson could deliver it for me. Ready? Ok. I would like them to suck my *****, please. All day.
4. Van Gogh
An original masterpiece? C'mon. It BECOMES original as I modify it. You say such heavily modified vehicles look ridiculous, but that's just, like, your opinion, man. Van Gogh was a loon.

still ricers to me what ever you want to call them. and mustangs did not suck during the 80-90's. it is what kept the american performance industry alive. as the owner of a speed shop during that time i had a little experience with this. i might have sold 2 sets of rims for "ricers" and sold tens of thousands of dollars worth of mustang stuff not counting the chevy stuff we sold. the mustang performance industry alone generates $1 Billion a year. that is one car from one manufacturer not the whole damn continent of asia. i loved my 5.0 it was everything a mustang should be light cheap fairly quick but easy to modify and to say they and all mustangs sucked during the 80-90's is a little extreme and thinking that ricers kept the performance industry alive in the 80-90's is a f*cking fantasy. the mustang is and was the king of the performance industry.
I belong to MCA and my area's local affiliate of MCA. I am around alot of Mustang purist who say that any Mod. should not be done to a Mustang performance or other wise. I do not like the look of how some people have done their Stang or they might not like that I have lowered mine. But what ever they decide to do to their Stang is their right so who am I to tell them what they should and should not do. If it was not for people doing what somebody might say is a stupid Mod. do you think the after market would be what it is today for the Mustang. So if it means somebody doing something stupid to a Stang to keep the after market industry making parts for all Stangs than some have to go down. Thank about where we would be without Steeda who makes some of those parts we don't like.
