Oh, well, I may as well put in my two cents.
Ford did a great job in 64-66, building a mustang that was both popular, classy, looked great, and ran well. Then, for some unexplained reasons, those idiots at ford started ricing the car, by doing things like taking that classic taillight panel, and changing it to be concave(inward curving), and then they changed the front headlight panel slightly, but worst of all, they put these totally Non-functional brake cooling fins just back of the door, below the rear window. I have examined these fins carefully, and they DO NOT COOL THE BRAKES! what the heck was ford doing, making these silly mods to a classic car, that did not even help out with performance. And I wont even go into the crazy stuff they started doing in '69. It is just ridiculous. Who won the war? I mean, really. Puh leeese. Those ricers at ford are just ridiculous, to change the classic lines. Now Volkswagon, there was a company that knew how to stay true to its roots. For nearly 50 years, the beetle has looked the same. Then, in the 70's, they came out with that stupid superbeetle, and it actually had a CURVED windshield. Why ruin such a great classic? they were doing so well for so long. We should all be driving stock beetles, if you want my opinion.

With mods as is my roush when you enter car shows where the crowd chooses the winner a modded car has better chance then a stock. I 've got 2 first places at 2 shows where there were stock mustangs. Also my car is this months candian classic car mag. I don' think it would be that way if stock

Funny thing, thread is still going. I was in the 4.0 section a month back and said it was lame to put GT emblems and such on the V-6 model, they got so mad I believe they put all their money together and put out a hit on me. I basically said if you want it to look like a GT then by one.

I guess I'd say stick on non performance pieces are not for me. Also if you are double side taping pieces on, make sure they are secure so they don't fly off as I'm flying by.

That is a great looking Mustang! No wonder you win car shows as "stock". I am not sure a Roush can be considered stock because it is an aftermarket setup. Am I out to lunch thinking this?

Either way, your Stang is a real head turner.

I think he was saying that there were stock Mustangs there and his "modded" Mustang won over the stock ones.

What about the 2000 Cobra R's rear spoiler? That thing was huge and that car was amazing!

Seriously... people...

You don't see anything odd about making an American Muscle car into a rice vehicle? Aren't they two totally different cars? Big engines vs. small, high-rev, whiny 4 bangers? Two totally different classes of automobile deserve two different classes of respect.

Why buy the Muscle car to make it look like a ricer? Counter-intuitive.

Funny thing... MANY people consider the MOPAR guys major gearheads and muscle car fanatics... that's hard to disprove... they keep MOST of their cars visually stock, and the thought of 'ricing' a Charger SRT8 or whatever other Mopar is punishable by death to those guys. Yet, so many Mustang owners cheapen their cars. Its sick.
I find it funny that someone gets so bent out of shape over what others, some of them morons, do to their cars. It's their car, I see a riced out Mustang and it revults me, disgusts me even but I'm at an age where I can laugh and hope the person grows out of it some day. Asking someone to backup their statement that it's someone elses car so who cares is childish, it's an opinion that doesn't require backup, hence the reason for the term "opinion"...

As for Mopar guys being more pure to the original design, come on now, when was the last time they had a car like the Mustang to mess with? All they have is the classic muscle cars to work with, (sorry, 4 door Chargers don't count in my opinion of course) at least until the next gen comes out finally. I have seen riced out blinged out Charger's, drive through any big city, holy crap what they do to their cars, any brand, but hey, their car so whatever.

Well I can't stand anything rice looking. I don't like lowered cars either. I would never put on any body kit, Roush or Saleen or whatever....
Who cares what I like though, besides me? If we all liked the same look on our cars life would be so boring.
If one person likes the appearance of plastic body kitss attached to their car or a giant wing - then they should follow their tastes - NOT MINE!

Well, those Mopar guys should definitely stay out of my nick of the woods. 'Cuz I've seen some weird shiat done to MOST of the 300C's and more than a couple of the new Chargers around here. Ya know, I believe in doing what u want to your own ride.......but at some point "certain" modifications go from being expressive to being downright repulsive[:'(]. But I guess where that line is drawn is a matter of personal taste too. I guess there are some ppl who don't find it offensive to drop a 300C like 7 inches, put 23 inch rims on it, and lay on extra chrome fittings to every conceivable body panel. But I think it looks wretched.
In the end, I guess the line between tasteful, ricer-ish, and pimpish is pretty blurry. I imagine some ppl will look at my car once the stripes are painted and the hood is on and shake their heads in disgust. But I feel that it's still a far cry from having a 4 foot wing, 23 inch rims, neon underglow, 12 lbs of vinyl labels, or 8 inch exhaust tips on my car.

And I still say, with our retro styled body, that waxing on some reminders of Mustangs past is far from doing something that could be considered "ricer" to our cars. But, that's JMO.
