Appearance Rant
I have no problem with ricers. There just hot rodders. Not my thing but live and let live. You buy a car do what you want with it. Will everyone like it?? No.. so what.
Hot rodding is all about individualizing. Some people want everyone to be just alike..... boring! I got enough of that in the army.
Heres my take on the 05 Mustang.
Hood scoop, front spoiler, rear panel panted black, polished bulllits and spinners.

This is a bad visual modification that is a disgrace to the mustang world (nothing wrong with the yankees, but the car is hideous)

Here is a visaul modification worthy of keeping the mustang name and keeping most of us mustang lovers proud. (in my eyes it's modern muscle)

You know I just have to reply about this......
Does anyone remember in the 60s when lots of guys (including today) were doing GT350 Replicas? Taking their 66,67,68 and getting the parts for the GT350s and retrofitting them to make them look like original GT350s? Is that considered "rice"? I am building a 1967 GT350 Tribute car, it will look just like a 67 GT350 when im done. Emblems and all, if anyone calls me rice...Ill just have to laugh and repoint to history I guess.

I can't believe people in this thread were having arguments about what other people want to do to their cars!! Do they need YOUR approval in order to make exterior mods? You didn't pay for their car, just yours, so keep yours the way you want and let them do whatever the **** they want with it. Some opinions you should just keep to yourself, let other people enjoy what they have too, jeez!!!! I also don't like those threads where people start posting pictures of other people's cars and making fun of them, the way this country is nowadays it wouldn't surprise me if someone got sued for posting pictures of someone's car without their permisson and making fun of it!
@ dcranford - Agree completely. I was around then. I had a 67 GT (not Shelby). By the time I bought it, it had been abused and during the VERY cheap re-paint process, lost a lot of its looks. I was just a kid then and didn't have the money to really fix it up the way I wanted to or I would have then. Just as you said, to make it look more like a Shelby. The movie "Gone in 60 seconds" brought a lot of attention to the 67 GT-500E. Back then, few people even knew what that was, I didn't and was a Mustang nut. Now that I've seen that one, it's my favorite. If I had the money back then, that's what I'd have build (or bought). Now I am building the modern representation of it.
@ dkano - My point exactly. To come here and say you don't like someone else's style is crazy - to each his own. Even worse, the guy that started this thread (using his wife's account apparently) went off the deep end. He said that adding body mods to the Mustang ruined the original intent and was a bad thing to do to the car. Saying that nobody would have done that back then.
I'm not looking for Wilson's approval for what I'm doing with my car nor anyone else's. I am wondering if Wilson is reading any of these replies thinking, maybe I was wrong. My bet is Wilson wasn't around in the late 60s or at least wasn't into cars then. -Joe

That's funny! I thought this one was archived a long while ago...
People can and should be able to do whatever pleases them to their cars. Their money, their car. That said, I personally like the clean original look of the car. Performance and suspension mods are about as far as I will go and even then my changes will be subtle. One mans opinion.
Rice... I guess a "ricer" is really just a poser. Even the term poser could be defined a hundred ways. The guys in the imports just dig that scene. I don't, but whatever they like is fine, doesn't affect me. I have been witness to some seriously modded and FAST imports. On the same token, I have seen the cars with body kits, stickers and fart can exhaust that were doing some serious posing. Again, I don't care, whatever, not my gig.
It is still fun to make good natured jokes about them though...

This thread is GREAT! It is one of the most entertaining, humorous, informative (see the historical info, which unfortunately contains misinformation) unabashed, and witty threads I've ever read on any site. I mean, how many times do we see someone ask, "How would my car look if I..."?
Want a real opinion? Find it here!. Personally, I agree w/ Sally about the purist angle. and Alfyre is a hoot! A well-informed one at that.
I'm from the original 'Stang era, and LOVE the shaker scoop. I also own a '68 Cougar which may influence me into getting the sequential lights (but I'd NEVER get leopard seat covers!) So, everyone tuck your feelings away just a bit and revel in some real, HONEST *opinions* about what someone you may pass on the road *really* thinks of mods you might make to your car.
I LOVE YOU GUYS!

Bwaaa haa haa haa......
Guess my car must really s*ck huh....
And that silly looking spoiler that was factory on my 69 Mustang Mach1. !969 american rice? Guess so.
Guess my 69 Z-28's factory spoiler was horrible looking.
And to think, I was dumb enough to build a 72 Vega with a 327 and two 660 Holleys on a tunnel ram. Guess I was the laughing stock of the block when I bolted the velocity stacks on it.
Better not even mention the 89 S-10 I biult with a 327 and custom paint with ghost scallops.
Sure am glad that 69 Shelby 500 went before I could buy it! Lucky for me the guy beat me to the bank.
Man, I sure am glad I have been straighned out! Gotta sell the stang now and buy a Crown vic. And to think, I have had it wrong for all these years. Yea, I totally agree now. Everything should be just as it was from creation, appearance wise.
Can you believe the nerve of those people that customize the older 50's cars. Chop and channel. They should be shot!
Ok, just laughing it up a bit. I know that you are not that nuts. Having some fun with this rather anti-climatic thread.
