wheels for 2006
Im looking at a set of bullitts, 17x9 front and 17x10 rear with 275 40's on the front and 315 35's on the rear. My car has sportline springs so I was wondering if anyone has had expierience with wheels and tires this big on lowered cars and were there any fitment issues. Front offset is +24 with 5.95. rear is +27 with 6.9 backspacing.
Hi Ren,
Yeah, the offsets you're looking into are far to shallow--actually, they look like the right offset for the previous generation of Mustangs. I think kopfjager is right about the 17" stock offset. I know my 18"x8.5" factory bullitt wheels have +50mm offset.
Also, I don't personally care for 275/40s on a 9" wide rim--that's at the bottom rung of most manufacturers specs for that size. You end up with a "puckered-in" look as the tire has to squeeze in to fit the rim. Most 275/40s are measured on a 9.5" rim, but I would prefer to have them mounted to a 10" rim to give the tire a wider platform on which to seat itself. This gives the tire a better foundation--less flex in the sides. I feel the same about 315s on a 10" rim, but I know lots of folks run these combinations--I just doubt that they do it for handling performance gains. Keep asking around though; see what other folks think.
Best,
