So what if I did a JLT CAI, 3/8" TB spacer, LT's, catted x pipe and full exhaust....then added these intake cams and did a tune? Would I still have to do all the head and intake work to benefit from these (98 Cobra) cams? Im not looking for HUGE gains. Just something substantial to get more benefit from what this engine is capable of and keep it as my mild-mannered DD.

If you did all that work you wouldn't have 400 hp. You would definitely feel a big difference.

Well...thx for nothing and it must be nice, lol. I'll get a quote on monday and if it's out of the question for my budget I'll sell them to ya for what I have in them if you'd like.

Those mods will put your crank hp somewhere around 380. The cams will benefit with no other changes, though the 20 degree duration increase will compound extra air and fuel supplied with an intake and tune. Don't even think about heads, the stock ones are awesome. Spend that massive amount of $ on everything else.

+1, though I think 400 is achievable N/A.

i can give your the combo for your 4.6 to make 500whp n/a.....but you better have some DEEP pockets

just a quickie run down

FR500 intake 2800 (cheap side)
FR500 cams/ FGT cams (1400-1800)
full exhaust (1400)
forged rotation assembly (1500-2000)
tuner (600)
tune (300)
gears (4.30s make it usable on the street)
BIG single blade TB (250-300)

this list would be ungodly long....but the motor alone in a 500whp+ N/A car would be around 10k....nowi can get you 500N/A really really easy too...514 stroker swap mild cam intake dominator 1050cfm carb and a t-56 would put you getting 18mpg-22mpg with 500whp and about 750ftlbs...once i finish my 67 i am going to buy a 63 galaxie and through a 429 with some worked over edlebrock heads and a custom cam and throw a t88 on it with a T-56 and some 3.00 gears in a 9" so on race day i can pull the pumpkin and slap some 5.11's in that bitch

Well this thread is encouraging. I just bought a 4v motor with 10:1 CR CNC work on the heads some mild porting on the heads and intake. The cams were degreed in and it has 98 Cobra cams. I wasn't sure what the big deal was, now I know.

I made those numbers before the Fidanza flywheel and ported short runner intake. Haven't had a chance to go back yet.
You can find the 96 to 98 cobra cams at http://www.modularmustangracing.com/
They always have several sets in stock and were $125 the last time I checked with them.
