I had a 92 5.0 with BBK headers and a Borla cat-back. No problems with a sticker. Even louder, I had a 2001 GT with a Jeg's 2.5" cutback. I swapped the "turbo style" mufflers with Flowmaster Super 10's. if you're not familiar with those, they're pretty much straight through. Even on my current 4-banger, I couldn't resist putting a cat-back on (because it was cheaper than the OEM exhaust currently only available from the dealers on backorder). The kit increased from 1.75" to 2.25" tubing, and deleted a resonator. I have not had any issues passing, but then again, I've been to the same guy with all of my cars.
I have heard that there is a fine for each resonator deleted from the car if you're pulled over, but I kind of doubt it. The only thing an officer is going to know is if the cats are missing.
Bottom line: I would not worry about an axle back system.
