RE: Newb
The four cylinder was carbureted as will be the small block. And the following pic shows proof of the vehicle no longer being able to support any type of fuel injection system anytime soon.....as well as: no power windows, locks, cruise, intermittant wipers......I pulled a LOT of wiring out.
I pulled out anything not 100% necessary, tested the rest and moved on to something else.

Oh yeah, and bring on the questions......I like being able to help.

That's my next mission. I'm going to remove the EGR valve first and then I'm cleaning up the wireing. I'm going to stick with fuel injection (probably, I'm still undicided). How long did it take to remove all that crap? How much trouble was it? Did you already have electrical knowledge or did you just go at it and learn as you went along?
(told you I'd have questions)

RE: Newb
Well, I have previous automotive knowledge and I knew what I wanted my end result to be. So......I pulled out the service manual, looked at a wiring diagram...realized that the computer, cruise, smog & emissions, and other unnecessary "crap" was fed through the firewall on the passenger side. I made double sure that nothing i needed was in that bundle of snakes and tied it off and cut it all at the firewall. Then I just pulled out the guts (computer and misc. wires) from the inside and separated the junk from the useful stuff in the engine bay. Grand total time involved on the wiring was a full day and about 15 to 20 Dr. Peppers. (no beer involved at this stage)
Here is the end result....sort of.....I'm still going to delete a wire or two more since I'll be using the "other" brand single wire alternator setup.
Everything you see zip tied together is all that is needed for lights, horn, and engine vitals.
The leftover wires filled up a 460 oil pan by the way.
As seen in above pic.
