New to the mustangs, need some info
Hello everybody, I am somewhat new to the mustang world and am looking at a 98 GT. What kind of things should i look out for when buying this? Right now it is completely stock, and only has different wheels. In the future though, I have a nitrous kit waiting in my bedroom for the car, and i was wondering if the internals will hold up to a wet 80 shot? I have a buddy who has a fox body 5.0, and he sprayed nitrous in that like it was his job. He also shifted extremely hard, and his transmission is holding up still. How are the transmissions on the 4.6's? And i am not trying to "bench race" but what kind of quarter mile time could i expect out of this car right now being all stock? Like i said earlier, i am somewhat new to mustangs, so any information on them would be great. I used to have a turbo eclipse, so I am kind of used to the import turbo stuff[sm=bustedsign.gif]

RE: New to the mustangs, need some info
Well, here is the low down on the 96-98 GTs. First, I am assuming that you have a 5 speed. You have a:
281 cubic inch, 4.6L 2 valve engine w/ nonPI heads
Tremec T45 tranny good up to about 350-375 ft/lbs of torque
about 225 hp to the flywheel stock
These trannies are not the greatest but I have been using mine w/ no problems. If you eventually upgrade, a good idea is a Tremec T56, or TKO 500 or 600.
You will be fine spraying up to 100 shot with a good tune. Any higher than that will become iffy. 80 shot will be fine w/ a good tune.
As far as stock times, it would depend on if it was a coupe or vert. I would say that you would be looking at about hight 14s stock and a little slower w/ a vert.
Good luck w/ the stang.
