Default best platform to start with ??

hey guys, newbie to the forum here, but no newbie to racing !!

i'm a foxbody guy from back in the day, 93GT w/tons o' goodies and lots of boost..
however alas, someone thought they needed my ride more than i did and decided to steal it a few years ago...

since then i've kinda drifted away from the mustang scene, i've got a power stroke diesel with lots of mods and tons of horsepower, but i picked up a copy of MMFF at the store the other day and while looking thru i got the 'bug' again and decided it's time for another 'stang..

being a 5.o guy i'd like to ask you guys your opinions on the mod motors and which ones in general are worth fixing up and which ones are gonna take less to make some power with.

should i try to get another nice fox body since they are older and very reasonably priced nowadays, or do these newer ones offer a decent performance starting point ??

i'm asking because i really don't know too much yet about what years had what motors recently , i know that there are 2v's, 3v's, and 4v's out there.. i know the 4valves are the cobra ones, and i'm not really looking for a cobra (unless it's a foxbody 93)..
but i've got a chance to pick up a '99 GT from a buddy of mine for a smokin' deal...
5speed, all stock runs good... this would be the 4.6 2v right ? is it a good motor to start with ? one that i could do some basics to first like intake, throttle body, and put a good turbo kit on it ?? i've built many turbo kits over the years for many cars so this would not be a problem but i want to start with a good one. when did the 3valve motors come out ?

i read about the PI motors and things like putting ported PI heads and PI intakes on NONPI motors and picking up close to 100 ponies.. which one is the 99, when did this "pi" start ?

do you think the 99GT is a good starting point for a killer street/strip build ?
ultimate goal is daily driveable (at least has to have street manners, but mostly a weekend car) with over 500RWHP.. 600 even better, but i see no need for 700or more on a street car, my PSD superduty puts over 650HP to the ground and it's starting to really lose it's street manners....

i welcome your guys' input and hope to back on top of the current "goings on" of the mustang world, i'm almost embarassed at my lack of knowledge on the current cars..

the fox is going to be cheap and relatively easy to build i already know this, but i also know that (at least i think i do, correct me if i'm wrong) that i need a later year in order to be able to take advantage of things like SCT tuning ?? my PSD is SCT tuned and i definitely want to be able to full tuning capabilities with something like that since the final product will definitely have forced induction, i'm a boost junkie !!

i want to see pics of the truck. my dad has a 5.9 cummins with some stuff done to it and it has 475HP and 900ft-lbs torque and that thing is a beast. 650whp in a big truck is insane.

yeah, the 5.0's were easy to work on and easy to mod up. The 2v came stock with 260hp and respond to mods fairly well. The 3v comes stock with 300Hp and also responds very well to mods. I guess cost is gonna be a factor but on either platform, to get those kind of performance numbers, you will ultimately end up forging your internals to be able to handle 500+ Hp.

By the way, the 4v also came on the Mach 1 of 03/04, not just the cobra

when did the 3v motors come out ? are they only for certain years or just certain models ??
i'm only really familiar with the 5.0 motors, not the mods, but for sure i'm already knowing that i'm going to be doing the internals, most likely will be stroker crank anyway while i'm at, and then rods/pistons/heads etc... it will be done thoroughly for sure...

the 99 is a 2v right ??

as far as the truck yeah for sure i'll post up some pics when i get back on my computer, i'm on the laptop right now. actually let me see what pics i might have uploaded that i link to hang on...
here is a pic of it just after installing the headstuds before it went back in :

a shot of the engine bay, looks mostly stock, but the turbo is a large 66mm NONVVT unit instead of the variable vane stock style unit. it's quite laggy with the 71mm turbine inside a
.85A/R housing, but once lit it's good for 45+ psi !! :

i'll try to get some better pics/vids when i get back to my other computer.
it's got lots done to it and i love talking diesel performance too, but i'm kinda in a hurry to know whether or not this 99GT is worth making into a performer before he sells it to someone else... what do you think ? it's got the 5 speed, and it's mostly all stock with 60k on it, so i don't think it's been abused (yet)..... is there anything i should know about these newer mustangs that are known weak points or problem areas to look for ??

the 99 is a 2v. the 4.6L in the GT from 99-04 were all 2v. The 3v came out in the mustangs in the 2005+ models.

i really am starting to like the look of those newer body style mustangs more and more now... i'm sure i will never like the look of the first SN-95's that replaced the fox body, never .. but at least the 99up have the more angled sharp lines to them, and the current platform is actually very good looking car.
the 99 my friend has is black/black w/ the 5spd manual tranny and all it has is some mufflers other than that it's stock and only has 60K for mileage and i can grab for under $6000 which seems like a pretty good deal because there's really nothing wrong with the thing he just really wants to get a truck and is motivated to get rid of it ...
