hatchback to convertible!
Hi All, first post here.
Before yesterday I had been a proud owner of a 2009 SS Sti. I have put about 37,000 miles into the car before yesterday...was my DD and I commute about 40 miles a day. I enjoyed the car tremendously, loved the practicality and the "uniqueness" of the car. Over the course of owning the car I had averaged about between 18-19mpg, which I think it pretty decent for the power and thrill it delivers. I don't auto-x, race, nothing. Just drove the car as DD and enjoyed every moment of it. With that said... I have always loved the Shelby.
Then I saw one for sale, '07 with less than 15K miles on the clock. This particular Shelby had Ford's Supercharger upgrade kit (new pulley, CAI, ECU modification, also with new crankshaft) performance exhast, and short shift kit. "Technically" it has 605HP after all the upgrades. What really gave me a peace of mind was that the previous owner kept ALL the modification receipts (all done by Ford). There was no doubt in my mind that this car was pampered.
And it was last day of the year, dealer had to get rid of the car. I had no reason to change out my STi, but I could not say no to the price. The Shelby had been on the lot for about a month, I went in and haggled. I told them I had no reason to change my car but wanted to take a peak at the mustang. Long story short, I got a GREAT trade in for my STi, and walked out with the mustang for about $10K less than what they originally had asked for a month ago.
This car is a completely different animal than the STi. It is big, porky, heavy, THIRSTY, all the impressions we know about the Shelby...they are all true. But it is also such an exhilarating machine under acceleration....the pull feels unlimited...the grawl of the exhaust is UNREAL. I absolutely love the sound of this car. The feel of the muscle...turning the ignition of the car puts a grin on my face every time.
Compared to the Shelby, the STi is actually quite practical...haha
Anyway, just wanted to share my experience. STi still and will always have all of my respect. I may get back in one another day. But as of this moment...that 5.4L supercharged V8 has all of me now
Cheers!

Yes Sir!! Both are great cars and give different kind of thrill. WRX for a DD is hell lot of fun but no replacement for displacement. The STi was a very reliable car for me (sure the WRX is same) so I hope the trend continues with the Shelby.
