95 Tbird "24 Hours of Lemons" track car owner learning about V6 Splitport mods
Hi:
Although I recently joined your forums, I've been a member at TCCOA.COM for over a year now (username: s4gunn). I acquired my 95 Ford thunderbird from a friend who was moving back east with the express intention of turning it into a track car for the 24 Hours of Lemons.
* It's only a V6. Naturally aspirated. UN-limited slip differential. It originally came with a 4r70w which we JMODed.
* I put all our budget money into the cars suspension and handling. The car handled quite well... but we got stomped our first race. My wife told me she could tell we were coming around the bend when she saw the corner workers waving blue flags (aka "someone faster is coming up behind you.") Of course, we saw that every lap. Minivans were passing us.
* I then put the residual budget we were granted into swapping in a manual transmission before our cars second race. I also gutted the car even more and found I could get it totally track ready @ 3000Lbs. The car's a lot more fun to drive now.
* Our second race was rainy on the first day. Our car was AWESOME in the wet as we could late brake and pass people handily in the turns. On the second day, the track dried out and we were promptly destroyed again.
My current project is finding more HP in our V6. I have no interest in using any superchargers I received with my donor car from this package though as I'm not sure about the wisdom of running a SC in an endurance race.
Right now, I'm working on a splitport swap which is why I've joined your forums along with a few other mustang forums. There's quite a bit of data on various tweaks I can learn from you guys on the 3.8L engine even if our suspension and brakes are different.
Regards,
-g

Is that an apple of the roof of the BMW in the background?? I'm digging the Thundercats decal on your hood!
Looks like you guys have fun out there.
Welcome to the forum. I can't help you with your HP quest but I'm sure the guys in the tech section can.
