Default my old mustang just got broken into, tried to hotwire

hello everyone, i am new to this forum, seeking help. i have an old 2004 mustang that i drive to work. i live fairly close to my work, so its not a far drive. my battery died from the cold a few nights ago (obviously i need a new one), so i had to let it set overnight. when i came to work the next day someone had popped the lock and tore apart the igniton and steering column to try to hotwire, or forcibly start. it was a failed attempt i think due to the battery being dead.

i charged the battery and tried to finnish what they had done just to get it back home. it will try to turn over, but wont start, i assume because the key is not present. is there anyone that could tell me a way to bypass the PATS to just start the car to get it home? i know forsure i have to replace the steering column.

also before anyone asks i do not have roadside assistance or anything.

thanks for any helpfull responses in advance.

The PATS system cannot be readily bypassed. Some say the software known as Forscan is capable of doing so. I cannot speak with certainty on that.

By "try to turn over", what exactly do you mean? Ford 2004 PATS disabled the starter. The tipoff is when the key is inserted into the lock, and turned to STARTR, the PATS indicator light flashes rapidly, and nothing else happens, no solenoid click, no crank.

Rent a truck and car dolly, and tow it home, then worry about trying to fix it.
