Default Looking to Buy my First Mustang

Hey everyone!

I am a college kid in PA looking for my first Mustang. I assume you all see this a lot, but wanted some opinions of people that know what they are talking about.

Basically, I am talking to an auction buyer at Manheim because I feel like I could get a better car for the money than buying from a dealer or buying it private party. I am looking for a coupe S197 (I love the throwback style) but don't know which derivative of Mustang I want. I am not looking for tons of horsepower, and the 200 from the V6 is enough. I am not drag racing or doing burnouts. I just want to drive and enjoy the car. I'm looking to spend about $5-6k and I am guessing that a 2005 is the cheapest (because its the oldest) but are there any issues with the car since it is the first year of the redesign? What kind of things should I be looking for? What reliability issues are there?

Any and all info and advice about buying my first mustang would be awesome!

Thanks everyone!

Brad

It's a mustang....... there are no reliability issues, built to last. But in my personal opinion, I am not a fan of the 2005-2009 body style. If I were you I would at least try and cough up enough cash for a 2012. Better performance, especially out of the V6 (305 HP)...... compared to the 2005 V8 (300HP)...... ford made some big changes in 6/7 years, you'll be much happier with a car of it's time, and maintaining that retro body style.

2011 or better for the 3.7 V6.

You won't be able to find a 2011+ for your cash in hand, unless you're lucky. I missed
a 2012 for $4800. Was an "R" title, but I looked at it, and you could not tell. He
started it at $10500, and when came ALL the way down to $5000, was when I went to look
at it. IT went for $4800, which was a steal...

The cheapest 2011 I found right now was $11,250

2012 for $9700, 53,000 miles.

You're stuck with a 05-09 V6 with $6000 in hand. You can find a GT for that, if you keep
your eyes open. I got my '08 V6 for $5813, down from $9200 at the Dealer... Then they
had to do $1200 worth of work to it, that they paid for. I would try to stay above 2006
model year.

High miles in your price range.
