Default Odometer question

So pretty sure I know the answer but I'll ask anyway. I'm looking at buying a 2002 mustang GT..has the white gauge cluster and it reads 238,000 the guy says the car only has 145,000 on it. Claims the previous owner swap the gauge cluster because he liked the white. Is this possible or wouldn't the miles just updated to the new cluster? It's digital , thanks in advance

To my knowledge the cluster face is the bit thats swapped out. the actual milage comes from the computer itself, so I’d expect it to not change at all. But someone else might chime in with some more detailed info.

however,, 238K vs 145K sounds a lot like a mile/kilometer conversion… 1 mile comes to 1.6 kilometers roughly. if the car was made for the canadian market I recall it should show the kilometers, and not the miles. Might want to see about milemarkers to see if it ticks over every kilometer or every mile.

You'd be able to tell if it's a Canadian cluster, the km/h will be the large numbers and the mph will be the small ones
