Default snow - tires & tractio

I bought the Mustang I always wanted last fall ('01 GT) and put off thinking about snow and winter, but here it is anyway.

I'm from PA and we haven't gotten any snow yet, but I'm sure we soon will.

What, if anything can I do to get some traction? What tires do you recommend? Should I go all out and get actual Winter tires? I mean, will they really help? Or will I be stuck no matter what?

Thanks!

Get winter tires, not all season,if you get any decent amount of snow/ice and its sticks around a while. Throw some weight directly over the rear axle.

I agree, with one exception that may sound kinda expensive. If your using this as a daily driver car everyday, I would have snow tires mounted on a different set of rims, because if you continually change tires from snow/regular on the same rims, it could possibly put undue wear and tear on the rim. This is just a suggestion, but I write from experience.

I agree with bob 100%...I always think of winter tires as being on steel wheels (nice and cheap)so I guess I overlooked that one, Good point!

Plus why expose your good wheels to the harsh conditions of winter roads!

buy a winter beater somethin fwd is probavly the best is not a 4x4, i havea winter/rainy daycar i keep year roundand the cobra is the sunnyday street machine. my buddy has a gt and every year around thanksgivin he gets a want ad and buys a winter beater for $500-$1500. having a second car is over all better.last year another friend didnt pull his stangin thewinter and come spring the salt/sand did a real number on the exterior. that second car eliminates tire changing hassels as well allows you to have a backup car if the stang goes in the shop

just my advice
