Exhaust problem
Well I just bought this Stang not too long ago, and it currently has stock manifolds, a catted x pipe, attached to 40's and 4" pipe from there. I am buying long tubes and would like tips that are smaller than 4". Problem is, all of the exhaust was professionally done, so everything except the headers to midpipe is welded... I'm going w/ an O/R pipe and a shop won't work on it, does anyone have any suggestions? Maybe cut the pipe right before the mufflers and use a coupler? Help would be MUCH appreciated, thanks
My father and I installed an off road h pipe and a mac catback (still using stock headers) last night on my 93 GT. Before I had a catted x pipe and 40 series flowmaster mufflers. The x pipe was welded to the flow tubes by a muffler shop and the stock tail pipes were clamped to the flowmasters. I just used a air powered cut off tool and cut on the flow tubes, cut the muffler clamps, then cut close to where the muffler and tail pipe meet. Try to cut any pipe where it is level and straight, it will be easier to cut. A sawzall will be easier to use on those pipes than a cut off tool. Use jack stands to line up your off road pipe so you can put it on the hangers and bolt it to your headers. I had trouble lining the h pipe up with the header studs and sliding the hangers on at the same time.
I had to bend the hangers a little to make the pipe fit. Once you have the pipe bolted up leave the car up in the air, start it, and make sure you have no exhaust leaks. . I hope this is enough suggestions. It will be worth it once your are done. Are you keeping the mufflers or are you getting a cat back?
