Default Muffler clamp won't clamp

Got a set of Magnaflow mufflers. Installed the first one without any problem until I got to the final tightening of the band clamp. I put about 100 lbs/ft on the nut, but the muffler is still loose on the midpipe.

I read another thread in which someone made a couple of cuts in the muffler pipe so it would crush easier. Before I do that, anyone have any suggestions?

FWIW I also tried the factory clamp. Same result.

Turns out I'm a moron. Didn't realize the clamp had to be at the edge of the inlet on top of the cuts. The factory one wasn't. Problem solved.
