Default Quantum Brak Ducts Installed

After 4 hrs of track time my front rotors look like this. Notice the micro fractures. This is the result of HT-10 pads, 3600lbs of weight, street touring class tires and some serious hard braking (smell those brakes lately?):

So I installed a set of Quantum brake ducts. Hopefully the extra cooling air will help prevent further degradation...we'll see, Im off to Summit Point on Monday and Tuesday:

Hope it solvesyour heat prob [sm=signs003.gif]

Is that little black plate designed for your car specifically or part of a universal kit? Gotta love the plumbers tape holding the hose up near the front. Looks exactly like what I have in my truck and use for just about everything

Let us know how it works.

The black plate that mounts to the spindle is specifically for the S197, or I suppose any car that uses the same spindle. Quantum also offers kits for older Mustangs. Yea, that metal strapping tape doesnt look good but is functional and once you have the wheel on cant be seen.

Quantum makes some nice stuff. I'll be helping my brother put a set of their ducts on his GTO this weekend. The ducts will definitely help, but after a season your rotors will look the same, even with ducts. I've been told it is normal...

Have fun at Summit! You doing the Main course, or Shenandoah? With which group? I'll be back in August with NASA (heading to VIR for the first time the weekend after next).

I installed the "Track Kit" along with their fascia inlet mounts last month. I'm happy so far (two track days). I got some 3 inch drain plugs from the hardware store (have a wing nut that expands the rubber in the plug for a tight fit) to keep the inlets blocked off when not at the track. I had to cut the ribs off of the rubber (took about five minutes each) and they fit perfectly. A little paint on the flange and you hardly notice them.

Hey Argonaut, do you change your pads at the track or run the HT-10 pads all the time? The HPS pads are not cutting it any more and I'm looking for the next step up. I am trying to find a pad with a bit more bite but is still streetable. My Mustang is not my daily driver and I only put on 5000 or so miles a year.

Thats not a bad idea. I was at the car wash yesterday and starting thinking how water was getting down in there while I was washing the front.

I swap pads the night before going to the track. Although I'd say its say to drive the HT-10s on the street (they have enough stopping power when cool) they are very loud, as in squeal. I can do the swap pretty quickly now.

I have the Quantum Motorsports kit in the garage and will install it before my next track day on the 26th.

That drain plug is a great idea. I was think of finding some dark colored foam pool noodles and cutting them to fit, but I like your idea much better.

My Mustang is not a daily driver. I use Carbotech pads because you don't need different rotors, all of their pads can be used on the same rotors. I use XP10's on the front and XP8's on the rear and Bobcats for the street. However I usually don't even change the track pads out, they don't destroy the rotors like some track pads (Hawk).
