My brand new 2008 GT (I know, sounds unlikely) has a slight shake around 50 - 55mph after three balances, the third with a set of new khumo tires. The car came with 20" aftermarket rims fitted by the dealer. You think I should ask for a RoadForce balance (not sure what they did - probably the basic spin)? What about the rotor clips - what was the consensus, should they stay or go?

If the rotors clips are still on get rid of them. It take a few minutes to remove the rim and save yourself a headache.

So there is no risk of causing another problem with removing the clips?

Clips are there to simplify assembly on the assembly line. They serve no purpose once the car is built.

to the OP.... Pirelli's are very known for flat spotting when they sit for more than 12 to 24 hours depending on the age of the tire. Soon as the tire heats up it goes away? If so, thats it. If not, get the wheel clips (which I would actually do either way)

I am still shaking after installing new Steeda Pentars and NT05's. The car looks better than ever but the street driving is driving me insane....And Ford tell me that this is my problem despite having the shimmy since day 1 off the dealer's lot and telling me to replace the wheels that were the problem.

I wonder if this is a problem with the front wheel bearings??

As good a guess as any I have. How can I check them? I don't get any play when I shake the front wheel (left or right) when it off the ground with the car jacked.

Anybody else who could advise a systematic approach to checking the front end for a "freeway speed" steering wheel shimmy?

The shimmy seems to be a common problem. I have a 2010, it had a slight shimmy with the pirelli stock wheels, and currently with the goodyear 19" 2010 GT500 wheels I have the same problem. I dont have the rotor clips on. (Like someone said above, they make assembly easier) For now Im living with it, and hope the problem goes away with replacement tires in the future.
