Steering Noise/Column?
My 05 GT has a weird noise coming from what I think to be the steering column. The best I can describe the noise is a low volume squeak, whine (non-mechanical), moan. It is heard as you turn the steering wheel. occurs is either direction and is present at any wheel position lock-to-lock. The noise can be heard while driving or sitting still (engine running). With the engine off, I cannot turn the wheel fast enough to generate the sound and I feel 99.9% that this is not a sound created in the engine compartment.
By listening to it, I would say the noise eminates from inside the passenger compartment and seems to be located between the steering wheel and the floorboard. It very much resembles something rubbing together.
Speaking of vehicles in general, I know most vehicles have a seal at the floorboard/firewall area where the steering shaft exits the passenger compartment. This is a lower mileage car (7500 miles) and Iknow that rubber components sometime dry-up when not used frequently.
Anybody experience this or have a clue?....I don't want to arbitrarily start spraying lubricant, etc. until I have a pinpointed area.
Thanks....

Sounds like you may need some lube in front end.
I had lots of popping and clicking just a few weeks back and turned out the upper ball-joints that were just installed, were not greased. Amazing how much noise all the moving components can make when just one of them does not move freely.
