Default Tires!

What is the widest tire I can put on the stock 17" rims?

Saleen + 4.10s = no traction...

Thanks.

Depends on the width. Check the SVT wheels on their website or on tirerack for the specs. Probably 8.5". Max width would depend on the tire manufacturer but probably not much beyond 275's, if that.

stock 05 17" are 8" wide, 275/40/17s about as wide as you can go, and that's a bit of a push

You can put a 275/50/17 on the stock 17x8's but the tire choices aren't in your favor. I just recently went through this same problem. Your pretty much forced to buy aftermarket wheels that are wider so you can afford a good wide tire!

A 275 is going to give you quite a bulge over the wheel as a 255 is a much better fit for an 8.5", IMO.

I am with others and recommend getting a set of 18"x10"s out back and putting some quality tires back there.

I run 275/40-17s for my auto-X tires. I put have on 17x8 size rims. That size is going to give you the widest variety of tires available. As soon as you start going into other sizes tire types get hard to come by.
