Well, Argo is probably right on everyone having a very strong opinion on oil...given that we all know how important it is to an engine's well-being, this stuff is bound to get people worked up (it's like bringing up national security or child-rearing practices...yeesh!).

Anyway, I appreciate the discussion and the tech/images Slaya offered. I noticed I was going through more oil than I expected last season, and I run Royal Purple 5w-20. Since I generally feel pretty good about Royal Purple as a manufacturer, I'm not happy with this weight under extended track use (same as the OP's stated use). I'll probably switch to 10w-30 next season.

Best,
-j

I've also had consumption issues with both Mobil1 and Royal Purple in another vehicle. Switched to Redline in that vehicle and the consumption issues ceased. Amsoil Sig Series 0W-30 level in my 07' mustang barely moves on the dipstick over the 10k mile changes (don't track my car or really even drive it that hard and live in a dry climate). I attribute minute loss to crankcase ventilation through the intake. I'm sure I would see that lost oil in a catchcan, if I ran one....

I know. Half of the fun is doing the work for me. I can't lie, I do push the car occasionally .
